Building From the Ground Up!

Beginning Building the Bugaring Home

It starts with plotting out where their little house will be nestled behind several other small plywood homes.
I went with Dexter and Abba to the Public Market to buy empty rice bags.

We filled them with a gravel/sand mix instead of buying already filled bags, we saved some pesos!
It was a very hot day and we filled about 50-60 bags and took three different trips back to Maligaya to deliver the bags....the truck could only stand so much weight.  The young guys carried them quite a distance to where we are building the house.

Then we purchased hollow block, cement and rebar.

The outside of the store where we bought the hollow block.

In the office of the store is also the family kitchen.  I love the cement finish don't you?

And now we have the foundation and inside floor of a 12x10 house for a family of four!  With maybe more children to come.... This will be their bedroom area, living room, eating area gathering area, storage area.
Where the flip flops are, will be a little cemented area to have a place to cook food on coals and possibly to wash clothes on the cement floor area to get out of the mud.
Dexter

William Bugaring is cementing up the walls for their MASTER BATH.  That little square area will be their CR (Comfort Room) equipped with only a toilet bowl (no seat, no running water, no electricity, no vanity...maybe a small mirror)

Elder J and Dexter unloading Coconut tree boards for the framing of the house.

We finished unloading materials and left them to work on the house which should be finished by about Tuesday next week.

Next week's post should show you pictures of the completed house and the happy, happy family.

What the kids in Maligaya do for FUN!

Play in trees and power lines!  OH MY GOODNESS.

See the kids kind of hidden on the left?

They swim in filthy water of a dug out CR or something that hasn't been completed!

When their moms find them, they are SO BUSTED!

Families we met with the Elders

Evelyn with 1 yr-old daughter Kate.  Evelyn's husband has worked away from home in Korea for seven years.

Clair and Camille are the older two daughters of Evelyn.  Clair is 6 and Camille is 11.
(See the large Little Mermaid doll behind them)...I have never seen toys like this in any of the homes we've been to so far. Curtains, an upholstered couch....wow!
Darling children of the Binangonan Branch Primary President.

And their cute dog....this is one of the lucky ones who are healthy and happy, albeit very stinky!!

We are warned to never touch any animals here.

Notice this house has a real door and a tile floor.

This is a family who are members and are referring investigators for the missionaries. They referred Evelyn.
They are building a computer, internet cafe in the front of their house along with a little tindahan (store) where the wired opening is.

They live across the street from this little school, who are also members of the Church and hope to get business when the mothers take their kids to school.  Many just wait for their kids til they are done.  Here, they will be able to buy some things, eat and get on the internet.

r

CUTE SCHOOL huh?

A FEW FUN THINGS IN AN OTHERWISE DIFFICULT WEEK FOR US.

We never knew RONALD was Filipino!!

After having the sonogram in the city we got to eat at a SUBWAY.....oh so good!!  Something FRESH and FAMILIAR is such a treat.
This is a scripture bag made out of drinking straws.  Elder Tizon taught some women to make these and it's getting to be the rage.  I think they made me a Sunday Bag....I'll let you know.  I'm going to learn how to do it and teach you all at home!!

We also want to help some people learn the craft to help them make money.
She asked me my favorite color for my dress. We had to smile at our hair color.  It's probably all she knows. She did such a great job.

Laundry hanging in front of Sister's apartments as we go to help them with their housing needs.
The weather is transitioning to the RAINY SEASON...which means it will take longer for clothes to dry.....It doesn't really rain here, it more like FLUSHES!!
Have a FABULOUS WEEK, we plan to!
