Seven Months now....Wow!

Teaching New Piano Students
Ya gotta love our make-shift pianos..stacked chairs and cardboard keyboards!

A student taking notes and learning music.

Teaching fingering!

Great group of students!  Sheffer's got seven keyboards.  We got five!
That will really help the Wards and Branches we serve in.

Blessing Day for President Benedict!

He is wearing a Barong Tagalog which is a Filipino shirt made from pineapple leaf fibers and is embroidered down the front.  Officials still wear this type of shirt.  In the Manila Temple the  men wear similar shirts that are furnished by the temple but are made out of heavier white fabric.  No ties for them in this temple.  Look at the cute little hand-covers!  Awww.

This is a snap shot of the note asking us to build them a tindahan!

Picking up and Delivering Bunk Beds

Chris above left builds them...we loaded them up and delivered to the missionaries in the center picture.
Elder J. doing MOST of the work as you can see!

SKIN INFECTIONS

NOTICE THE SIZE OF THIS COMPARED TO THE MOTHER'S HAND.

HIS OTHER LEG TO THE RIGHT...THIS BOY IS ABOUT NINE YEARS-OLD.

HIS YOUNGER BROTHER BELOW IS JUST STARTING OUT!

Pictures of Road Widening and People's Homes

They come in and just demolish the homes and the people just stay and make do behind the shaved off walls.  They sit on a chair at the very edge of the construction.

Business as usual.  Laundry to be done.  Stuff to be sold.

Notice the broken walls that once was the front part of homes.

Boards placed strategically over the evacuation area to allow them to come and go! Check out the child peeking out in the left opening!
Here you can see a mother sitting inside her new "adjusted" living quarters.
Another person sitting in the crack in this picture.
Even the dogs adjust to their new surroundings!

Putting on the FULL Armour of God!!

I'm getting desperate!  Not only do I lather on Repel and Off.  I bought these cute little patches that are good for 24 hours.  I wear them under my hem as you can see here.  I also place them on our sheets at night.  I'm about ready to build a "cross" and hold up to ward off any attackers!  Elder J. doesn't seem to be their flavor but I sure am!!

I average a good 6-10 bites a day.  UUUGGGHHH!

I live on anti-itch cream and benedryl while visions of

DENQUE FEVER and CHIKUNGUNGA

dance through my head.

  1. Dear E/S Johnson: We saw the same rashes caused by scratching insect bites over and over on the people. Yes, the missionaries also were attacked, and some with dengue. Our Mission Mom told us to use OFF. A dear friend also confirmed that, and the skin of her and her baby were unblemished. The trick with OFF is to apply to the exposed parts every 4 hours, even during the night, (or sleep under a mosquito net! at night). We gave nets to mothers with new babies. Missionaries should carry small bottles of OFF in their bags and religiously apply it. We gave away OFF to our investigators. We saw much ugly, ugly sores, upon sores and they spread, of course. Hope this helps. About us: We were MLS in the Tacloban Mission (2012 - 2013) Were transferred to the Cavite Mission after Yolanda typhoon. A horrendous event we will never forget. Ingat.
